A 50-year-old day labourer, Monirul Islam, was brutally killed in Madhabpur village under Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga on Saturday. Locals recovered his throat-slit body from his residence and informed police.
The victim, from Balihuda village, had recently moved to Madhabpur with his wife, Papia Khatun, after purchasing land.
According to witnesses, the murder occurred while Papia was reportedly away from home. Suspicion has fallen on Monirul’s son, Raju (25), following reports that he called a neighbour shortly after the incident to ask whether his father had died.
Following the incident, both Raju and Papia have gone missing, further intensifying local suspicion of their involvement.
Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mamun Hossain Biswas confirmed that police reached the scene and have launched a full investigation. “We are treating the case with utmost priority and are working to uncover the motive and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
