The holidaymakers return home from work their place to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their relatives. From the very first day of the Eid holidays, Daulatdia ferryghat, known as the gateway of the 21 southwestern districts of the country, the local bus terminals and the launch terminal become over crowded with the people who made their holiday journey.
However, there is no traffic congestion in the area. The administration discharges their duties vigilantly. That’s why people can make their journey comfortably. But, the passengers of the local buses and Mahindra (leguna) claimed that they are demanding extra charges.
Traffic police inspector Mohammad Abul Hossain said, after June 2, the passengers started getting their pressure at Daulatdia Ferryghat and Launchghat. More pressure of the passengers is increasing as the number of passengers is rising.
The Dhaka-bound passengers claimed that the local buses and manhidra (leguna) charged extra rent but the administration did not take any action.
Md Alamgir Hossain, the passenger from Dhaka to Rajbari, said, "I am working at a private company in Dhaka. I could never go home without any kind of hassles. Mahindra (leguna) charges Tk 150 from ghat area to Rajbari Palash Pump, that was triple than before, he claimed.
Shafiqul Islam, BIWTC ghat manager (trade), said about 20 ferries are serving on the route this year to cross the river. Hopefully, if there is no natural disaster, the people will be able to return home easily.
