In order to meet the needs of the country, various types of products including rice, wheat, corn, onions, stones are imported from India. A large part of these imported goods come through the Darshana Railway Port of Chuadanga district. Due to good connectivity, short distance with the capital Dhaka and low cost of import and export, Chuadanga’s Darshana Railway Port is the top choice of traders and the volume of goods import is increasing every year. According to Darshana railway port sources, more than 2.2 million tons of goods have arrived from India in the last one year. Out of this, 3 lakh 26 thousand tons of wheat, 2 lakh 54 thousand tons of corn, 1 lakh 51 thousand tons of rice, 69 thousand tons of onions, 88 thousand tons of khail, 2 lakh 11 thousand tons of fly ash and 11 lakh 16 thousand tons of stone came. The total income of Bangladesh Railway is 98 crore 21 lakh 46 thousand 376 taka.

Importers said that importing goods by rail is more cost-effective and safer than by road. Importing goods through Darshana Railway Port is economical and safer than other land ports. Due to good connectivity from Darshana Railway Port, it is easy to transport goods across the country by trucks in a very short time.

Vice President of Chuadanga Chamber of Commerce Manjurul Alam Malik said, we can import various products through Darshana Railway Porta t a very low cost. We traders can benefit from that. Besides, this railway port is also a blessing for those who are in transport business.

Mir Liaquat Ali, supervisor of Darshana International Railway Station, said that due to the low cost of importing by rail, traders are now very enthusiastic about importing goods by rail. Along with higher profits of traders, government revenue is also increasing. About 100 truckloads of goods in each rail rack enter the country very easily and at low cost. Darshana railway port has the necessary capacity to import goods. In the future, if the import of goods through railways increases, then the Bangladesh Railway Authority will take necessary measures according to the demands of the businessmen to meet the required manpower.
