The government has reduced fertilizer price for the five times since 2009 with latest move to cut down the Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) price by Taka 9 fixing at Taka 16 per kg from Taka 25. “The government has fixed per kg DAP fertilizer price to Taka 16, by cutting Taka 9, from Taka 25 for the farmers,” said Agriculture Minister Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque while addressing a press briefing at the conference room of his ministry office on Wednesday.

The price has been re-fixed to Taka 14 from Taka 23 per kg for the dealers, the minister added. The price reduction decision will force the government to spend Taka 800 crore as subsidy only for the DAP fertilizer, said an official release citing the agriculture minister.

The decision has been taken to revise the fertilizer price for maintaining sustainable and eco-friendly food security including reduction of food production cost, motivating farmers to use balanced fertilizer and boosting plants resistance power, said Dr Razzaque.

After coming to power since 2009, the ruling Awami League has repeatedly reduced the fertilizer price in phases with the latest selling price of per kg Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) to Taka 22 from Taka 80, Muriate of Potash (MoP) at Taka 15 from Taka 70 and DAP at Taka 16 from the earlier price of Taka 90. The DAP price reduction will significantly reduce the crop production cost as a whole, the minister told the journalists.
