Daniel Radcliffe has admitted that he had a hand in fueling rumors about his casting as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Played by Hugh Jackman since the year 2000, Wolverine/Logan is one of the most popular Marvel Comics characters, and viewers grew to love Jackman's portrayal over the course of the X-Men films. The actor's final foray as the hero was for years thought to be 2017's Logan, which, set in the future, saw Jackman's version of the character die in definitive fashion and Jackman initially retire from the role.
In Jackman's stead, many looked to other actors for a potential Wolverine reboot, and rumors about Daniel Radcliffe being cast as the mutant took hold often over the past few years. Since the end of the Harry Potter franchise, Radcliffe has played a wide variety of roles and established an impressive range. Early this year, Radcliffe stated that he can't imagine measuring up to Jackman, but finished the thought by saying, "But who knows? Prove me wrong, Marvel," seemingly indicating his interest in the part. Despite the rumors, Jackman's return as Wolverine and entry into the MCU alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3 was announced this year, thrilling Jackman's fans and effectively putting an end to the speculation about Radcliffe.
During a sit-down with GQ, Radcliffe referenced the rumors about him being in talks to play Wolverine. Though he stated that he's all for joining another big franchise after Harry Potter, he clarified that there was never a basis in reality for those reports, which he admits were at times fueled by his responses during press tours, though not intentionally.
