Daily Covid infection rate halves in 7 days

The daily Covid-19 infection rate in the country continues to fall further. Throughout the last week, the infection rate fell by around 50 percent.

Last Wednesday, 3,929 Covid cases were recorded at an infection rate of 12.20pc. After a week, the numbers of Covid infections fell to 1,595 in a day at an infection rate of 6.77. 

However, Bangladesh registered 16 more deaths in 24 hours from Covid-19 till 8am Tuesday. The total number of deaths has reached to 28,990 with the latest figure.

The total number of people infected rose to 1,936,837, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.

The current positivity rate stands 6.77 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 14.62 percent.

Earlier on Monday, nine people died from the virus and 1,951 people contracted the virus on that day. 

In addition, the death rate now stands at 1.50 percent in the country, added the release.

Among the deaths, eight were reported in Dhaka, three in Chattogram, two in Rajshahi, and one each was reported in Khulna, Sylhet and Rangpur divisions.

A total of 23,547 samples were tested across the country till 8am Tuesday. 

Some 8,357 Covid-19 patients have recovered during this period. A total of 1,771,615 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 91.47 percent.

As of Tuesday, 5,912,365 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 426,913,256 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
