Daily Covid deaths cross 30 again

Bangladesh registered 31 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Friday, taking the death toll to 12,511. 

The number of Covid-19 fatalities has surged again after remaining low for two days. The country recorded 17 deaths on Wednesday, and 22 on Thursday. 

The death rate stands at 1.57 percent in the country, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday. 

The number of newly infected has also increased. The country recorded 1,358 new infections in the taking the total number of people infected to 7,96,343, added the release. 

The current positivity rate stands at 9.30 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.49 percent.

Of the 31 deceased, 18 were men, and 13 were women. 30 of them died in different hospitals across the country while one at home. 

Among the victims, 10 each were from the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, six from Khulna, two each from Rajshahi and Rangpur, and one from Sylhet division.

A total of 14,606 samples were tested across the country till 8am Friday.

At least 1,064 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,36,221 and the recovery rate at 92.45 percent.

As of Friday, 3,526,515 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 169,677,262 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.

Meanwhile, South Asia has surpassed 30 million cases of coronavirus on Friday. The South Asia region which encompasses the countries- India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka, accounts for 18 percent of global cases and almost 10 percent of deaths.
