Daily Covid cases jumps to 1140, 7 deaths in 24 hrs

Bangladesh registered seven more deaths in 24 hours from Covid-19 till 8am Thursday. The total number of deaths has reached to 28,097 with the latest figure.

The country recorded 1140 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,589,947, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday.

The current positivity rate stands 4.86 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 13.69 percent.

In addition, the death rate now stands at 1.77 percent in the country, added the release.

Among the seven deceased, five were males and two were females. Of them, four were from Chattogram and one each from Dhaka, Rajshahi and Rangpur division. 

A total of 23,435 samples were tested across the country till 8am Thursday. 

Some 196 Covid-19 patients have recovered during this period. A total of 1,550,364 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 97.51 percent.

As of Thursday, 5,484,286 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 298,409,911 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
