An elderly woman was killed as a tree fell on her house while she was eating rice during the cyclonic storm 'Sitrang'in Sonakhali Bazar area in Sadar upazila of Barguna district on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Amena Khatun, nearly 100-year-old.
The accident occurred in Burirchar while Amena Khatun was eating rice at her house around 8pm, at that time, a tree next to the house uprooted and fell on her house, leaving her dead on the spot, UP Chairman of Burirchar union Humayun Kabir said.
The chairman also said that the tree was uprooted due to the heavy rain.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Baarguna Sadar police station Ali Ahmed said that the upazila administration has assured the victim's family of necessary assistance.
