All activities at Chattogram port suspended on Sunday until further notice due to Cyclone Remal.

The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) issued the port-specific ‘Alert-4’ at 9:30am after the met office asked the port to hoist great danger signal No. 9 at 9:00am.

Chattogram Port has taken all necessary preparations to combat the cyclone. All ships were shifted from the port jetty. The ships, jetty, yard, shed and handling equipment were kept safely. The port authority started an emergency control room as well.

Omar Faruk, the secretary of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), said a preparatory meeting was held with the officers of all the departments on Saturday. The unloading at the outer anchorage and jetty was decreased after the port authority issued its own alert at level-1. All the ships were exited from the jetty during the tide.

He also said all operations of the port were halted as CPA issued Alert-4 due to Cyclone Remal. The water vessels of outer anchorage were asked to stay at a safe place. The ships were also asked to keep contact with the port authority and follow the instructions.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Sunday morning asked Mongla and Payra ports to hoist great danger signal no 10. It also asked the Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar ports to hoist great danger signal no 10 as cyclonic storm Remal was heading towards the coastal areas of Bangladesh.
