Cyclone Mocha approaches: Lakshmipur on high alert

Lakshmipur district administration has taken maximum precautionary measures for cyclone 'Mocha'. The local administration has announced the closure of all types of ferry and launch on the sea route with 23 districts including Bhola-Barisal in the southern region from Majuchaudhuri Hat ferry and launch Ghat of the district. The closure order will remain in force until further orders.

As a result, many vehicles loaded with goods are stuck at the ferry terminal, waiting for the ferry crossing to southern region including Barisal. Many passengers have also suffered due to the suspension of shipping. Meanwhile, a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee has been held to deal with the cyclone. 

At present, the coastal district of Lakshmipur is under the level 8 emergency signal, said the district administration. Extensive preparatory measures have been taken. Lakshmipur district administration and disaster management committee have taken advance preparatory measures to deal with cyclone 'Mocha'. An emergency meeting of the Disaster Management Committee was held on Saturday afternoon under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anwar Hoshain Akand. In this regard, the red flag has been hoisted in the coastal area. UNOs have been asked to prepare the shelter centers in these four sub-district upazilas including Ramgati, Kamalnagar, Raipur, Sadar Upazila. Instructions have been given to keep boats and trawlers ready in sub-oceanic rivers to bring coastal residents to shelters. Fishing boats and trawlers are returning to the bay to seek safe shelter.

Apart from this, the villagers are being instructed to take shelter in a safe place by miking. Apart from shelters, schools, colleges, madrasas, mosques will be used as shelters.

Officials from different levels of administration including upazila executive officers were present in the meeting. 

He has prepared 285 shelters in coastal areas. One thousand and 60 volunteer workers of Red Crescent CPP have been kept ready. 64 medical teams have been formed. 420 million tons of rice has been blocked for distribution on an emergency basis. About 81 thousand 200 people can take shelter in it. 8 lakh 12 thousand in cash has been kept in it. 5 control rooms have been opened in district headquarters, Ramgatti, Kamalnagar and Raipur upazilas.

Under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarbik Noor A Alam, Sadar Upazila Civil Surgeon Dr Ahmed Kabir, Executive Officer Emran Hossain, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Yunus Mia, District Fisheries Officer Aminul Haque, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service Enayetur Rahman, various departments including Red Crescent were also present. officials and media personnel.

The leave of officers and employees of the concerned department has been cancelled.

  Meanwhile, CPP Kamalnagar team leader Samchuddoha said that 1,600 volunteer workers of Red Crescent CPP have been kept ready. Out of this there are 630 female and 630 male workers. He said that the primary warning signal flag No. 4 has been hoisted at all coastal places. People are being invited to take shelter in safe places by miking.
