Cyclone ‘Asani’ affects low-lying areas of Chattogram

The cyclone 'Asani' has submerged several areas of the port city of Chattogram in a few minutes of rain.  As a result, working people in the lower part of the city have to suffer from waterlogging.

 According to the Patenga Meteorological Department, although there is more rainfall in different upazilas of Chattogram, the amount of rainfall in the city is less.  11 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the last 24 hours.

 Although the sun shone on Monday morning, it rained heavily in several parts of the city in Chattogram in the afternoon.  The practice of Bangladesh cricket team was stopped at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the rain.  It started raining at around 3 in the afternoon.  Knees were submerged in several areas of Chattogram including Agrabad, Halishahar, Muradpur, Sholoshahar and many areas in this rain.  The passengers and drivers of public transport have to fall into disarray.

 Sheikh Harunur Rashid, Weather forecasting officer in Patenga Meteorological Department, said it had rained heavily in several parts of the city around noon.  There is a possibility of rain even at night due to cyclone Asani.  However, the amount of rainfall in the city is very low.  So far 11 mm of rainfall has been recorded.
