On Wednesday, the Department of Sociology and Gender Studies of Central Women's University (CWU) arranged a programme to greet and honour Rowshan Ara Begum, a social worker and General Secretary, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, Kushtia for her role in preventing child marriage and promoting women's education. She stopped the marriage of Trisha Parvin, a 13 year old school girl from Kumarkhali, Kushtia on 16 June. Moreover, Rowshan Ara Begum has taken the responsibility of Trisha's future education.
In the programme held at the conference room of the University, Dr M Mufakharul Islam, treasurer, Dr Maleka Begum, chairperson, Department of Sociology and Gender Studies, A K M Morshed, deputy registrar, Rowshan Ara Begum's son Reful Karim, Asif-Un-Nahar, assistant professor, Department of Business Administration, Masuma Yasmin, senior lecturer, Department of Business Administration, Jayed- Ul- Ehsan, lecturer, Department of English Language and Literature, faculty members and students of the Department of Sociology and Gender Studies were present. Jobaira Biswas, senior lecturer, Department of Sociology and Gender Studies conducted the programme.
