In the current context of Covid-19 world, Customs is now working on security, international militancy and counter-terrorism in addition to revenue collection.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Munim came up with this comment while speaking at a press conference on the occasion of International Customs Day in the conference room of the National Board of Revenue on Tuesday.

This time, like 183 countries, Bangladesh is also observing International Customs Day as a member country on 26 January. The main theme of this year’s Customs Day is the expansion of digital customs through the development of information culture and the creation of information ecosystems.

Munim said, “In the current context of the world, customs is now working on security, international militancy and counter-terrorism in addition to revenue collection. Out of the total revenue in the last financial year, Tk 77,150 crore and till December of the current financial year, Tk 41,194 crore of the total revenue has been collected by customs. This is an increase of 22.44 percent over the previous financial year.”

“Bangladesh Customs is following the proper procedure for import and export of all harmful products. Customs is playing an important role in maintaining revenue as well as communication with other countries. Custom pricing also aims to create an investment-friendly environment and ensure security,” added Munim.

“Traders have to lodge specific complaints to NBR if they have such issue. We are calling for specific complaints. When, where and what happened - for which they have suffered, we will take action if they make a written complaint to us,” the NBR chairman said.
