Customs house to remain open during Eid holidays

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has decided to keep the country's customs houses open for six days during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holiday to keep the country's import-export activities moving.  Except for Eid days, import-export activities will continue from April 29 to May 4 at the customs houses.

 The NBR confirmed the matter to the media on Wednesday.

 According to the NBR, in order to bring dynamism in the country's import-export activities and to ensure a trade-friendly revenue environment, import-export activities at customs houses on public and weekly holidays from 29 April (Friday) to 4 May (Wednesday) (excluding Eid days) on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.  Will continue to run on a limited scale.  The concerned offices have been instructed to take necessary action in this regard.

 The holy Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the country on 2-3 May, subject to the sighting of the moon.  This year Eid holiday is three days.  May Day holiday before that.  His previous two days were Friday and Saturday.  As a result, Eid holidays will start from April 29.  6 days off from that day till Wednesday.

 BGMEA, an association of garment exporters sent a letter to the NBR requesting the opening of a customs house and customs station during the Eid holidays. 

The NBR has taken this decision at the request of BGMEA.  Most of the import and export of the country is done through Chittagong port.  After that more import-export activities were done through Benapole Customs House.  It is learned that these two customs houses including Dhaka, Mongla, Kamalapur ICD and Pangaon Customs will remain open during Eid.
