According to the complaint, Rajib Mia, son of Babul Mia from Baropara Union in Cumilla Sadar Dakshin, went to Saudi Arabia on 28 August 2017. On 22 December 2020, he met Jannatul Ferdous Shimu, a Bangladeshi expatriate working in Saudi Arabia. Discovering she was alone, Rajib developed a relationship with her and promised marriage.
He later rented a family apartment in Saudi Arabia, introducing Shimu as his wife using his residency documents. They lived together for nearly four years, during which Shimu handed over all her earnings – amounting to around Tk 25 lakh – to Rajib. Before secretly returning to Bangladesh on 27 August 2025, Rajib also took Shimu’s gold jewellery worth over Tk 5 lakh.
Back in Bangladesh, Rajib reportedly married another woman. When Shimu and her mother visited his house, they were assaulted and forced to leave.
Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway. Rajib could not be reached for comment.
