Rubaiya Khanam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Cumilla Sadar Dakshin, has officially gone on maternity leave following her promotion and transfer as Senior Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Planning.
Her departure on Thursday marked a proud yet emotional moment for the community. Known for her integrity, proactive service, and people-centric approach, Khanam earned widespread respect throughout her tenure.
She played a pivotal role during the 24 July unrest, providing calm and strategic leadership that ensured security across the Upazila premises, including the police station and key public areas.
Khanam also spearheaded significant infrastructure improvements to the Upazila complex, including government-funded upgrades to the UNO office and hall room—efforts that visibly enhanced the working environment.
Reflecting on her time in office, she said, “I may be leaving, but it’s the people who will judge my work. If I have unintentionally caused anyone distress, I sincerely ask for forgiveness.”
She expressed gratitude to local journalists, political figures, and the wider community for their support during her tenure, pledging continued dedication to public service in her new role.
