Over two hundred master-roll workers and employees of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) in Cumilla observed a work abstention and staged a protest rally on Monday afternoon, demanding an end to salary disparities.
The rally was addressed by Abdullah Al Muhammad Masum, President of the Cumilla District Regional Council; General Secretary Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan; and Advisors Md Arifur Rahman, Mohammad Maidul Islam, and Abdur Rashid, among others.
Speakers at the protest strongly urged the government to take immediate steps to eliminate the existing pay discrimination of master-roll workers.
As part of their movement, they announced plans to submit memorandums to the heads of all Roads and Highways offices on October 23, to the Deputy Commissioners of all districts on October 26, and to hold a press conference at the Dhaka Central Office of the Workers’ Union on October 28.
