A Chittagong University (CU) student drowned and two of his friends went missing while bathing at a beach in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning.
The trio were bathing at Himchhari beach when the sea was rough, according to inspector Somnath Basu of the Himchari Investigation Centre.
The deceased was identified as KM Sadman Rahman Sabab, a first-year student at the Department of Development Studies. He hailed from Dhaka's Mirpur.
The two students who went missing are-- Aritra Hasan and Asif Ahmed – also the students of the same department. Md Riad Mia, a classmate of the deceased and a student in the Department of Arabic, said that five friends had come on a trip to Cox’s
Bazar on Monday after completing their first-year final examinations.
They went to the beach around 5:30AM.
"We were taking photos when the rain started to come down. Two of us ran for shelter under the umbrella, but they stayed in the ocean. We called them several times and they kept saying that they were coming. The boatmen were telling them to come ashore too. At one point, they sank into the water."
