CU seeks railway support to upgrade shuttle train transport system

A meeting was held between the Chittagong University (CU) administration and Bangladesh Railway (Eastern Region) to improve the quality of shuttle train services and address existing problems faced by students.

The meeting took place at the CU Vice-Chancellor’s office on Monday.

 CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan presided over the meeting. 

CU Vice-Chancellor said that most students of Chittagong University depend on shuttle trains for daily transportation. He emphasized the need for cooperation from railway authorities to make the service more convenient, comfortable, and efficient, and stressed the importance of taking prompt and effective measures to reduce student suffering.

During the meeting, CUCSU representatives raised several proposals including increasing the number of shuttle trains, introducing a double-line system, removing illegal structures, increasing the number of coaches and engines, controlling unauthorized passengers, strengthening security, preventing stone-throwing incidents, reducing schedule disruptions, and improving station facilities.

The railway (Eastern Region) delegation stated that some issues could be resolved in the short term, while others require long-term planning. However, they assured their commitment to improving services for students.

Among those present were CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Proctor Professor Dr. Hossain Shahid Sarwardy, Assistant Proctor Dr. Md. Kamrul Hossain, Comptroller of Accounts Md. Amirul Islam, CUCSU GS Saeed Bin Habib, AGS Ayubur Rahman Taufiq, Communication and Accommodation Secretary Md. Ishaq Bhuiyan, and Deputy Communication and Accommodation Secretary Waidul Salman.

The railway (Eastern Region) delegation included Bangladesh Railway General Manager (GM) Md. Subaktagin, Divisional Railway Manager Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Chief Engineer (East) Md. Tanvirul Islam, Chief Mechanical Engineer (East) Sadequr Rahman, Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer (East) Tarek Mohammad Sams Tushar, Chief Operating Superintendent (East) Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, Chief Commercial Manager (East) Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Chief Electrical Engineer (East) Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, Chief Commandant RNB (East) Md.
