CU held seminar on current trend of English studies

A seminar titled 'Current Trends and Challenges in English Studies' was held in the hall room on Wednesday under the initiative of Chittagong University English Department.  Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shireen Akhtar was present as the chief guest in the seminar and CU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Benu Kumar Dey was present as a special guest.

Professor Dr Sukanth Bhattacharya, Chairman of CU English Department, presided over the meeting.  Professor Chowdhury Mohammad Ali, Professor Dr Jahangir Bin Sarwar and Professor Mainul Hasan Chowdhury of English Department spoke as guests.

In the seminar, a paper titled 'Developing EFL Learners' Writing Skills : An In-Depth Analysis' was presented by CU English Department Professor Dr Sukanth Bhattacharya, a paper titled 'What is inside English for Today (Classes Nine-TenNine-Ten') was presented by CU English Department Professor  Dr Muhammad Rokan Uddin and CU English Department Assistant Professor Shanta Rani Biswas presented the paper titled 'Exploring Barriers for Indigenous Learners in Studying English Language and Literature in Bangladeshi Tertiary Institutions'. The seminar was moderated by English Department students Nusrat Jahan Nimmi and Sushmita Karmakar Mimi.

 CU VC said, English is the international language.  There is no substitute for English language in achieving excellence in higher education, communication and technology.  In order to keep pace with the modern world in knowledge and research, it is very important to acquire proficiency in the English language along with the mother tongue.  International language English should be prioritized to gain the ability to face the new challenges of the world and to present Bangladesh to the world.

 She said, English is not just a language;  It is one of the means of development and communication.  He called on the students to continue practicing this language by focusing more on acquiring proficiency and proficiency in English.
