The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Saturday lodged a case under the ICT act against one Mustak Muhammad Arman Khan, who claimed himself Imam Mahdi, an eschatological redeemer of Islam who will appear and rule before the Day of Judgment and rid the world of evil.

Deputy Commissioner of the CTTC unit Saiful Islam confirmed it on Sunday adding, “We lodged the case with Ramna police station in the capital on Saturday.”

He further said, “As accused Arman is currently hiding  in Saudi Arabia, we will contact with our Saudi counterpart  for arranging  his quick  extradition.”

According to the CTTC sources, an inspector of the unit filed the case against Arman on charges of religious misinterpretation and provocative speech.

He has been spreading provocative messages through his YouTube channel for a long time claiming that he is a descendant of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) and that he has been nominated as Imam Mahadi in a dream, the case statement said.

Arman completed his graduation from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2016.

He left Bangladesh for Saudi Arabia in 2016 and is still living there and has been releasing speeches and messages calling for jihad on his behalf.

He has served as the leader of various organizations including Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, where he was previously a soldier.

CTTC unit team arrested 17 members of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) from the Kakrail area  in the city on May 4. CTTC officials had claimed that the JMB members were trying to travel to Saudi Arabia to meet the self-proclaimed Imam Mahadi.
