Railway authorities are conducting an operation to evict the illegal occupants from one acre of railway land in Chittagong.
The operation began on Monday morning in the Amin Jute Mill area of the city. At that time 81 members of police and RNB took part.
Railway officials said the occupiers had been constructing illegal structures on a one-acre site for a long time. Many times they were asked to leave, but nothing happened. The authorities started the eviction drive as soon as they were forced.
Chittagong Railway Eastern Land Resources Officer Mahbubul Karim said there are about 350 shops here. If we can eradicate these, we will be able to save about one acre of land.
Incidentally, the railway authorities carried out the eviction drive about five months ago. About 15 to 20 acres of railway land was recovered at that time.
