Chittagong Port is advancing with the touch of modern equipment and modernization.  As a result, the company has already handled 31.69 lakh TEUS containers, surpassing all past records.  The port has procured service jetties, overflow yards as well as procured new tug boats to further enhance the capacity of the port.  The port authorities have built an international standard swimming complex at their own expense to overcome the infrastructural crisis in the stadium and increase training and practice.  At the same time, this important institution of the government is sending a message of capability not only to Chittagong but to the whole country.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury inaugurated the service jetty of Chittagong Port by unveiling a plaque at Barik Building junction area on Sunday morning.

Port Chairman Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Member Md Zafar Alam, Secretary Md Omar Faruq and other senior officials of the Ministry of Shipping were present at the occasion.

The day-long program included handing over of tugboats purchased from Western Marine for the port, overflow yard and inauguration of the swimming complex.

Speaking as the chief guest at the handing over ceremony of newly collected tugboats and inauguration of the newly constructed service jetty, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, "Mobility has increased in the port. It is good news for us.  Prime Minister has been running the country continuously for the last 12 years.  Through this, not only Chittagong port, the whole country is moving forward.  The world is stunned.  We have maintained the economic trend of Bangladesh under the able leadership of the Prime Minister.  Many countries in the world have stumbled economically due to leadership.  We would not have got this independent country without the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

Shipping Minister Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, ‘Chittagong port is the main gateway to Bangladesh's progress.  In Corona, 12 ships have been unloaded at Chittagong port every day.  The port of Chittagong has extended its hand where there is social weakness in Chittagong.  The workers of Chittagong port are most sincere. Different countries of the world want to invest in this Chittagong port.  The further the country goes, the more conspiracies will be formed.  So we have to work together to stop the conspiracy.  A lot of work in front of Chittagong port.  There are many challenges including Bay terminal, Matarbari sea port.  We have to work on going.’

Port chairman said an international standard swimming pool, tennis code and basketball have been inaugurated at Chittagong port today.  This will create opportunities for various sports.  The 8-lane swimming pool is built on 1.3 acres of land.  Everyone can learn to swim here.  There is also a spacious gallery here.

Chittagong Port Authority Secretary Omar Faruq said, "Every time the port is moving forward successfully.  With the sincere efforts and cooperation of the port officials, employees and users, the port is moving forward and will continue to move forward.  New equipment has been added to the port.  This will further increase the capacity of the port.  The safety of the ship will be increased and the hassle of container clutter will be reduced.  The addition of new tugboats, service jetties, overflow yards in the new year is a wonderful gift from the port to the townspeople. '

According to Chittagong port sources, a 722 feet long service jetty has been constructed at a cost of Tk 83 crore to solve the problem of service jetty.  As a result, about 35 different types of vessels owned by Chittagong Port will be operated from now on.  This project will speed up the safety and operational activities of ships in the port.  The project focuses on a 2,650-square-foot office building, a 3,000-square-foot steel warehouse, an underground water reservoir of 2,100 cubic meters, a 222-meter-long 8-foot retaining wall, river bank and shore protection, drainage, 500 KV Electrical sub station, 100 feet high signal tower has been constructed.

A tugboat with a capacity of 40 bp (a unit of bollard pool-ship power) worth about Tk 37.75 crore has been added to the port fleet.  In all, there are now eight tug boats in Chittagong port.  It is 3.75 meters deep and 33 meters long.  Chittagong Port signed a contract with Western Marine Shipyard in 2017 to build the tugboat.  The port authorities have set up a 'Nepw Mooring Overflow Container Yard' at the site of the old labor colony at the Freeport junction in the city.  The yard can hold about 12,000 containers.  As a result, even if the container needs increase and the container pressure increases at different times, the port authorities think that the possibility of complication will be greatly reduced.

On the other hand, another state-of-the-art swimming complex with state-of-the-art facilities has been constructed next to Bandar Stadium.  The entire cost has been borne by the port authorities.  The swimming complex has been constructed on a quarter of an acre of land at a cost of about Tk 16 crore.  There are two separate swimming pools.  There are 8 lanes in the main pool of 1250 square meters (50 meters in length and 25 meters in width) made of international standard.  The depth on one side is 4.5 feet and the depth on the other side is thirteen and a half feet.  So that 8 swimmers can give low diving together.  The main pool of the complex is another small swimming pool 50 feet long and 20 feet wide.  So that the little ones and the apprentices can learn to swim.  Which has a depth of 2 feet on one side and 4 feet on the other.  There are also separate dressing rooms, shower zones and toilets for men, women and children.  With the opening of the swimming complex, professional swimmers will be able to train and practice.  Newcomers will also be able to learn to swim through skilled trainers.
