The Chottagram phase of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) cricket to begin from today with two matches will take place at the Zahur Ahmed Stadium.
Chottagram Challengers will host Fortune Barisal in the day’s first match when Khulna and Rangpur will lock horn in the second match.
Meanwhile, Sylhet Strikers finished on top the Dhaka phase with eight points after winning all their four matches they played when the reigning champions Comilla Victorians and the Khulna Tigers are at the bottom of the points table. None of Comilla Victorians and Khulna Tigers could win any of their matches two matches, they played.
The Dhaka phase concluded with some positive and negative expects when the ‘Home of Cricket’ saw some exciting performances from the youngsters, high scoring matches, closely contested low scoring matches and some controversies also gave birth with unusual behave of Shakib Al Hassan with umpires decisions.
However, the the initial stage ended with happy notes, as the overcoming all the controversies and criticisms a large number of enthusiastic crowds accompanied at the ‘Home of Cricket’.
If we highlighted to the negative aspects first, there were huge talking about DSR, as with some of the umpires’ decisions seemingly very close and in absence of the digital system, sometimes players and club officials burst out protesting against the decisions.
Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hassan alongwith three other players were fined 15 percent of their match fee. Shakib and Nurul Hassan Shohan were fined due to dishonour umpires instruction when AnamulHaque was penalised for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision.
Actually, besides these diminutive happening, BPL is going to Chottagram with some prospects.
If we look to the positive aspects of Dhaka phase, first of all an impressive performance of TwhidRhidoy along with some youngsters with Zakir Hassan, RonyTalukder and Nazmul Hossain Shanto also looked very confident and encouraging bowling performance from veteran Mashrafee along with Al Amin Hossain.
Among all TowhidRhidoy drew the attention of all with his excellent batting approach when the Sylhet Strikers batters, in his four innings scored highest 195 runs.
Towhid played the major role in three matches of Sylhet Strikers’ win all four matches when the youngster in his three matches scored 55 off 34 balls, 56 off 37 off balls and 84 from 46 deliveries. Though the in-form batters is very unfortunate for being ruled out for some matches due to finger injury. Nazmul Hossain Shanto is second highest run scorer following Towhid with 167 runs from four matches.
Among bowlers, Mashrafee and Al Amin Hossain are the highest wicket takers in Dhaka phase with seven wickets each, though none of them are not member of the national team.
In all respects, Dhaka phase ended with most of positive aspects and as well as very encouraging.
It os very much expected that the Chottagram phase will very more successful and exciting for the Port City crowds.
