Ctg mayor seeks cooperation for Jam-free city

Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) freedom fighter Rezaul Karim Chowdhury on Wednesday sought everyone’s cooperation to ensure traffic free Chattogram during the month of Ramadan.

“People will fast with their families and will go for Eid shopping. Police department, city corporation and other government agencies should work together to ensure traffic free roads during the month,” the mayor said this at the 26th general meeting of CCC elected 6th Parishad at KB Abdus Sattar auditorium in Chattogram.

“We have taken steps to ensure that the streets of the city markets are free of jams and the drains are clean. Councillors and engineers will ensure lighting on ward roads.” He added.

The mayor said, “Battery rickshaws have become a cause of public suffering.  These rickshaws are consuming a lot of electricity.  We have already made a lot of progress in launching solar electric rickshaws alternative to battery rickshaws.” He said that necessary measures should be taken by the law enforcement forces to evacuate illegal shops occupied by hawkers in important places including New Market, Rayazuddin Bazar in the city. The CCC mayor said, “After I took over as the city mayor, Prime Minister allocated different projects worth of Tk 2500 crores.  When these projects will complete, there will be a revolutionary change in the Chattogram.’

“However, if the different responsible agencies do not coordinate with the CCC, the benefits of ongoing development activities will be threatened.” He added.

CCC chief executive officer Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, panel mayor, councilors, secretary Khaled Mahmud along with departmental and CCC branch heads  and representatives of various government agencies of the city were present in the meeting.
