Newspaper hawkers have stopped earning money like the general public due to long-term unemployment caused by the global epidemic Corona virus.
CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin distributed Iftar and Seheri among 200 newspaper hawkers on behalf of Chittagong Port Winsman (Crane Operator) Welfare Multipurpose Cooperative Society at the Hawker Association office on KC Dey Road on Wednesday afternoon.
Mayor Nasir said, “The newspaper hawkers were in trouble as sales of printed newspaper had declined since the start of the public holiday. Newspaper hawkers are in crisis due to the current corona crisis. It is our responsibility to be by their side. I am trying to make people stand besides them with help”.
He said that the newspapers may not be able to compensate the hawkers with these. They have no other alternative occupation. The mayor called on the rich and corporate houses to look into helping those who have lost their jobs due to the corona virus.
Chittagong Port Winsman (Crane Operator) Welfare Multipurpose Cooperative Society Vice President Mohammad Akhter, General Secretary Md. Nasir Ullah, Joint General Secretary Mohammad Nizam Uddin Mizan, Organizing Secretary Md. Shah Alam Biplob, Chittagong Newspaper Agents Association President Ayub Khan, General Secretary Nazrul Islam, Al Harun were present at the time.
