Around 300 markets and shopping malls will remain closed in Chattogram till Eid-ul-Fitr despite the government permissions, shop owners’ association said on Saturday.
Online shop will remain open and no hawker will be allowed to open shops during this time, the association said after its leaders meet the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) commissioner.
The decision on closure was take as majority of the owners wanted to do so considering the risk to public health, they said.
CMP Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman said the city's shop owners' association will keep their businesses shut from Sunday.
They made the decision to protect themselves as well as their customers amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The commissioner also advised the traders to follow 11 technical guidelines issued by the health department and six directives by CMP for shopping malls and markets to facilitate prevention, control and economic activities of Corona virus.
CMP issues direction
The CMP directed the shops and shopping malls to keep those open from 10am to 4pm as per the schedule announced by the government.
Other directions are buyers living in the shopping mall or market are advised to ensure the area of residence to keep the buyer with their identity card in general and check to enter the shopping mall; elderly, children and ailing people are discouraged to visit shopping malls; use designated entry and exit points at shopping mall and disinfect all vehicles arriving at the mall.
