Ctg General Hospital to get 500 more beds: Nowfel

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel on Sunday said arrangements will be made to add another 500 beds to the Chittagong General Hospital.

He made the remarks while talking to the reporters after the inauguration of a new isolation ward for coronavirus-infected patients at the Chittagong General Hospital in the port city’s Anderkilla area.

Nawfel said Chattogram is fully prepared to face a possible second wave of coronavirus during the winter. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself is overseeing the medical system during the coronavirus pandemic.

Since the novel coronavirus broke out, the Chittagong General Hospital was designated for the treatment of Covid-19 patients, he added. Nowfel said a city is not built on the private medical care and it is essential to increase the capacity of the General Hospital to boost government healthcare facility. 

Superintendent of General Hospital Asim Kumar Das, Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, Medicine Department Senior Consultant Dr Abdur Rob Masum, Junior Consultant Hamidullah Mehdi, Resident Medical Officer Tanzim Islam were present on the occasion.
