CTG, Dhaka win first gold in the Sk. Kamal 2nd Youth Games

Chattogram and Dhaka Division won the first gold medal of the Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladsh Youth Games with Omnia BinteYosufLubaba in the girls and Candidate Master Monon Reza Nir in the boys division won medals in the rapid chess competition on Saturday, ahead of the opening day of the games.     

Omnia BinteYosufLubaba and Candidate Master Monon Reza Nir participated from of Chattogram and Dhaka Division respectively.

Held at the Chess Room of National (NSC) Omnia BinteYosufLubaba defeated Nushrat Jahan Alo of her compatriot of Chattogram Division to win the gold when WarshiaKhushbu of Dhaka Vision won bronz medal. In the Boys group, Shornavo Chowdhury of Dhaka and Candidate Master ShaklainMostaqueSajid of Rajshahi Division won the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, with the objective of discovering the talented athletes in different events Sheikh Kamal Youth Games, organised by the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) was officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday at the Bangladesh Army Stadium.

On the opening day (Sunday) in the girls’ hockey competitions, in a keenly contested first match of the day, Khulna Division defeated Rangpur by 5-4 in a tie-breaker after the schedule times was ended on 4-4.

After winning the match Rajshahi Division booked their room as the first semifinalist.

The second match was also very competitive when Rajshahi Division won the match against Mymensingha by 3-0 in tie-breaker after the scheduled time was finished on 1-1 draw. Rajshahi moved into the semifinal.

Chattogram Division joined Rajshahi and Khulna division in the semifinal when they thrashed Barishal Division by 8-0. All the matches was held at the MaulanaBhashani Hockey Stadium.

Dhaka Rajshahi and Rangpur Division won their respective matches in the girls’ handball competition on the opening day.

Held at the Sheed M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium, Dhaka demolished Chattogram Divisional Sports Association by 17-1, Rajshahi Division also just trounced the Barishal Sports Association by 34-1 while Rangpur Divisional Sports Association thrashed Mymensinghja by 28-2 in the day’s last match of the girls’ group.

 At the Shaheed Nur Hossain Volleyball Stadium,  Khulna, Rangpur and Dhaka Division won their respective matches in the boys’ competition.

Khulna defeated Rajshahi Division straight 2-0 set with 25-13, 25-18 points, Rangpur Division also defeated Barishal by straight -20 sets with 25-12 and 25-18 points when Dhaka Division outplayed Chattogram at same margin with straight 2-0 sets.

In the girls’ division, Barishal, Rajshahi and Chattogram won their respective matches in the handball competitions. Barishal won by straight 2-0 setes against Mymensinghja, Rajshahidefated Dhaka by straight 2-0 sets (25-09 and 25-20, Chattogramdefated Khulna by 25-11, 25-22 (2-0).
