Ctg customs foils bid to dodge revenue by false declaration

Customs officials seized 60 tons of sugar, powdered milk, citric acid in a consignment of three containers declared as 'Soda Ash Light'.  

Attempts were made to evade government revenue by making false declarations in these invoices.

Deputy Commissioner of AIR Branch in Custom House SaifulHaque confirmed the matter in a notification sent to the media on Friday.

The consignment is picked up at CEPZ's private depot named QNS Container Service Limited.

The Audit, Investigation and Research (AIR) Wing and the Port Control Unit (PCU) Wing of the Custom House analyse various aspects of risk management and get an initial idea about bringing undeclared goods in the consignment.

 The shipment is then placed under surveillance.  After realizing the matter, the importer did not take the initiative to release the consignment, nor did he file the bill of entry.

According to the Customs, a shipment of three containers from China declared soda ash light in the name of an importer named M/s Arafat Trading of 464 DT Road, Samina Mansion of Sadarghat Thana, Chattogram arrived at the port on September 27. 

Three containers were opened and 100% manual inspection was done in the presence of various organizations on Thursday.  At that time, soda ash light was found printed in English on all the bags, but only 40 bags had the product.  Its weight is 1 ton.

60 tons of condensed sugar, milk powder, saccharin, citric acid etc. different food grade products are obtained by cutting the remaining sacks.  Samples are collected for chemical testing of product integrity and food suitability.

Itsmentioned that the process of filing a case against the persons and organizations involved in revenue evasion is going on the orders of the Commissioner of Custom House in this incident.
