Customs conducts at least 2 auctions per month to reduce the ever increasing pressure of auctionable containers at Chattogram Port. However, this time Chattogram Customs House is inviting 3 auctions within this lockdown, said the concerned official involved in the auction activities.
There will be 2 general auctions and 1 e-auction to be held this July. Although the date of the general auction has been fixed, the date of e-auction may be fixed today, said a source in the Customs Auction Branch. The first of the general auctions will be held on 8 July and the second on 29 July.
It is learned that 56 lots are being put up for auction No. 12 this year to be held on July 8. The auction catalog and tenders will start selling from today. The sale will continue till July 7 during office hours.
Auction catalogs can be obtained from the M/s KM Corporation head office on Stand Road at Majhir Ghat in the city, the auction branch of the customs shed opposite Bandar Stadium and the Motijheel address in Dhaka. The auction will be held on July 8 in Dhaka and Chattogram.
Regarding the auction, Messrs. KM Corporation Manager (Auction) Mohammad Morshed, a private company conducting government auctions, said that at least 2 auctions are called every month at Chittagong Customs. There are 3 calls again in a month. Over the past few months, 298 containers have been destroyed. Customs and auction operating company KM Corporation have to do a lot of work together to reduce the pressure inside the port.
But our auction activities are not being stopped. Two general auctions and an e-auction have been held this month in compliance with proper health rules. Although the lockdown has made it difficult for customs officials, auction management officials and auction participants to travel due to the transport crisis, the auction activities have been continued in the greater interest of the port.
