Bangladesh Institute of Tropical qnd Infectious Disease (BITID), the only corona virus testing lab in Chattogram has been testing samples to identity corona virus infection for 21 days now.
However, the BITID lab has been facing corona virus testing kit crisis. They obtained 960 corona testing kits on last Tuesday, April 14, but they were only parts of the full testing kit set according to BITID sources.
BITID sources say, there are three steps to complete a corona sample test. But the kits sent from the IEDCR are the kits needed to complete the last step of the test on a PCR machine. The other kits needed to complete the rest of the process were not provided. As a result, testing samples for corona virus infection with these 960 incomplete kits is uncertain.
It is reported that 850 kits were issued from IEDCR in Dhaka on March 25. BITID later received another 100 kits from a foreign company. After these kits were finished, IEDCR gave 960 more kits on Tuesday.
BITID Microbiology professor Shakil Ahmed said 960 kits have been received officially on Tuesday. However, it is not a complete set of kit. These kits can only be used for PCR machines.
