To implement the promise of delivering services to the doorsteps of the people, the Chattogram District Administration initiated a public hearing at the marginal level.
A public hearing on citizen services was held at the Kusumpura Union Parishad premises of Patiya Upazila on Tuesday.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Farida Khanam was the chief guest at the event. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Sadi Ur Rahim Jadid was present as a special guest. Upazila Executive Officer Farhanur Rahman presided over the event. Assistant Commissioner (Land) Roya Tripura and heads of various government departments of the upazila were present at the time.
When the common people of Kusumpura Union raised various problems and complaints in the public hearing, the Deputy Commissioner ordered the officials of the concerned department to immediately resolve the solvable issues. The Deputy Commissioner took effective steps to resolve 20 of the 21 issues raised during the event. Rehabilitation of beggars and homeless people, improvement of educational institutions and quality of education, road development, provision of wheelchairs to help the disabled, old age allowance, disability allowance - all these issues are mainly raised in today's public hearing. The Deputy Commissioner assured that in case of complex problems, initiatives will be taken to solve them by contacting the concerned ministry if necessary.
Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam said, "This initiative of our public hearing at the union level is aimed at simplifying these three issues - time-cost-visit - which will reduce the suffering of the people. People will not have to run to get services, the administration will go to their doorsteps - this is our goal. I believe that such an arrangement will further strengthen the relationship of trust and cooperation between the people and the administration."
The common people who participated in the public hearing said that this initiative of the district administration is really commendable; the way the Deputy Commissioner came today and listened to the complaints and took necessary measures in light of that is unimaginable. If such public hearing activities continue to meet the expectations of the people, development activities at the marginal level will be more dynamic.
It is worth noting that, as per the instructions of the Cabinet Division, the Deputy Commissioner holds public hearings in his office every Wednesday. However, this innovative initiative of the Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram is with the intention of bringing the activities to the field level and reaching the people.
