Crowds of retailers in onion yard of Khatunganj

Neighboring India has stopped exporting onions to Bangladesh. It was sold at Tk 37 on Monday morning but jumped to Tk 45 in the afternoon.

Indian onions were sold at Tk 50-60 on Tuesday. Retailers and grocers are flocking to the Khatunganj warehouse, fearing that the announcement of a ban on onion exports from India will push up prices. Many customers who are scheduled for weddings, hosts, various events are buying onions from the warehouse.

According to the traders of Khatunganj, 6 trucks of onions arrived at various yards on Tuesday. However, it is much less than the demand. If supply does not increase, there will be a risk of price increase.

Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is selling onion, sugar, lentil pulses and soybean oil in 10 trucks in Chittagong. 

Onion in TCB truck is Tk 30.TCB's Chittagong regional head Jamal Uddin Ahmed said 300 kg of onion was given to each truck. The truck sale is scheduled for October 1. Then action will be taken as per the instructions of the authorities.
