From the minister to cricket fans, current and former national team’s cricketers, none wanted to miss the glimpse of the touring ICC World Cup Cricket Trophy when it came to Bangladesh as a part of it’s global tour.
The cricketers of the former national teams and the present team and the organizers had a close touch with the trophy when it was put on display at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
The ICC World Cup Cricket Trophy which is now on a three-day tour to Bangladesh as it’s global tour run-up to the upcoming ICC World Cup, first was displayed at the Stadium at Mirpur.
The most coveted ICC Cricket trophy, which is now in Bangladesh has been travelling in the cricketing world to offer the privilege to Bangladeshi cricketers, organizers and fans to catch a sight with the trophy. Therefore, the trophy was displayed at iconic Padma Bridge on day one and tomorrow it will be displayed for the fans at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall from 11:00am to 8:00pm.
However, among the current players, veteran Mushfiqur Rahim had the honour of carrying the trophy and placing it on a display table at the stadium where the other players were waiting to have their pictures with it when Taskin Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed, Shamim Patwari, Afif Hossain were among others.
The former national team captains Akram Khan and the first Test and World Cup (1999) captain of the Bangladesh national team Naimur Rahman Durjoy and Khaled Mahmud Pilot, Habibul Bashar Sumon (former captain and national selector) did not miss, as also they joined in posing for photographs with the coveted World Cup trophy.
Who knows, the cricketers could win the ICC World Cup (2023) and will have the opportunity to have poses with the trophy but they did not want miss the opportunity when on Tuesday morning the prestigious trophy was kept for display at the home of cricket — Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Mushfiqur Rahim, former captain and one of the most valuable player of the national side, was thrilled as he reflected his feelings – “I feel incredibly fortunate to have represented Bangladesh in four World Cups. We have every belief of performing well in the ensuing World Cup to be held in India, wanting to do better than our previous World Cup performances.”
Mushfiqur also expected that the Tigers’ cricketers,need to perform at their optimum level to achieve better results.
“It’s very much vital to make a solid start and that will be the huge boost up for the next matches. Over the last four to five years, we have exhibited exceptional cricket in ODIs. The coming World Cup is a great opportunity for emerging players to stage their skills. Our squad comprised with a blend of youth and experienced players. I’m optimistic that they will team up efficiently,” Mushfiqur added.
Taskin Ahmed, the pace spearhead of the Tigers’ team, looked very excited during the photo session with the World Cup trophy.
Taskin said, “For the past few years, our pace unit has devoted ruthless efforts, It’s truly heartening to hear that our pace unit is performing well collectively. I'm confident that in the coming years, we can outshine our current achievements.”
The photo session with the World Cup trophy was graced not only by members of the men's national team but also by cricketers from the Bangladesh women's team and State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel also have a close touch with the trophy.
When the trohy was brough to the Ministry, the minister and other officicals of the ministry also posed with the trophy. Zahed Ahsan Russel also expected a good result of Bangladesh team in the coming World Cup.
Nigar Sultana Joty, captain of the women's team, expressed her optimism that the men's team has performed admirably in ODIs, heightening expectations for this year’s World Cup.
"The whole team is here. It feels really great, thanks to the BCB and the Women's wing to give us the opportunity to watch the trophy from very close,” said Nigar.
