BCB director and umpires committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu advised the cricketers to remain calm on the field after some cricketers showed repeated misdemeanor to the decisions of the umpires in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
Mithu, also a former cricket said the umpires didn't give any decision deliberately for which a player can feel down.
"The players are reacting more, sometimes those reactions and misdemeanor went beyond the law," Mithu said here today.
"Players also need to be cool. You cannot react like that in the field. You claimed umpire is wrong but I can give you 100% assurance that those were not deliberate decisions (if there is anything wrong in decision)."
The players also protested umpiring decision such way that it often stopped the game, which is another cause of concern for the board.
The game between Prime Bank and Sheikh Jamal stopped for a while two days ago after Prime Bank's offspinner Mahedi Hasan looked displeased with umpire's decision.
Jamal captain Nurul Hasan Sohan missed the timing while scooping the ball of Mahedi and the bowler appealed from the bowling end as the ball hit his pads. Umpire remained unmoved.
The bowler could not accept the umpire's decision in any way and started screaming. Prime Bank captain Mohammad Mithun also joined there to stop the game for a while.
This is a regular scene in Dhaka Premier League now. The players are often reluctant to accept the umpire's decision. Besides wasting playing time by showing bad reactions, they are making the environment complicated.
Earlier, Mohammedan captain ImrulKayes got into an argument with the umpire over a run out in the last minute of a match in Fatullah Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium. Shakib Al Hasan also was displeased, sitting at the ground with his hands on his head. In another match, Mohammedan all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz got out and misbehaved with the third umpire. Sitting on the boundary and watching the video footage on his mobile phone, he hurled indecent words to the umpire for which he had to be punished.
How helpless the umpires are in domestic cricket can be understood from the incident of two years ago when Shakib kicked the stumps as the decision did not come in his favour.
There can be wrong umpiring on the field but losing temper is not the solution, Mithu said. "The cricketers had to be restrained. If you show bad temper, it will tarnish the image of you and the game."
Bringing up the issue of Miraz's punishment, Mithu added, "When we used to play, we used pressure tactics on umpires. But, the rules of that time and the rules of today have changed. It is now completely unacceptable at the international level."
"You will be fined if you show any bad temper or be foul mouthed. We also have to go to that level slowly. The highest penalty was imposed in Miraz incident. Players should not react. The players also should help us to improve the quality of cricket."
BCB will give advertisement to bring up new umpires and female umpires will be called up alongside the male umpires. Advanced training will be arranged with the selected umpires, Mithu informed.
