Cricketer Mosharraf’s grave will be preserved, says DNCC Mayor

Mayor Atiqul Islam has directed the concerned department of Dhaka North City Corporation to take steps to preserve the grave of former Bangladesh national cricketer Mosharraf Hossain Rubel on humanitarian grounds.

Chaiti Farhana, wife of the late cricketer Mosharraf Hossain Rubel, has verbally appealed to the mayor through the media to preserve Rubel's grave permanently.

It may be mentioned that Mayor Md Atiqul Islam is currently residing in the holy city of Makkah to perform Umrah. He gave this instruction to preserve the grave knowing the application through media.

Expressing grief over the death of cricketer Mosharraf Hossain Rubel, the mayor said, "Mosharraf Hossain Rubel did not play for himself, he played for the country. His contribution has made the people of the country proud. That is why I think it is our responsibility to preserve his grave permanently.”

Regarding the wife and child of cricketer Rubel, Mayor Atiqul Islam said, "The man who has spread the fame of Bangladesh all over the world will not get a single piece of land at the time of his departure. I cannot let that happen."

He said the grave of cricketer Rubel would be permanently preserved by taking appropriate measures as per the rules after returning to the country after performing the holy Umrah.

Former Bangladesh cricketer Mosharraf Hossain Rubel died of cancer on April 19 at a hospital in the capital. At that time he was 40 years old.
