Cricket fraternity mourn Mosharraf Rubel

The Bangladesh cricket community was shocked by the demise of former national cricketer Mosharraf Hossain Rubel, who had been battling cancer for more than three years.

Left-arm spinner Mosharraf was diagnosed with a brain tumour in March 2019. He passed away at a city hospital at the age of 40.

Following his death, many cricketers expressed their sorrow on social media.

Former ODI captain Mashrafe wrote 'stay well my friend,' after news broke yesterday that Rubel had lost his battle with cancer.Former teammate Shakib al Hasan termed Mosharraf as one of the best spinners in the country.

"We are saddened by the death of our long-time teammate and one of the best spinners in the country, Mosharraf Hossain Rubel. We are praying for the forgiveness of the deceased and our condolences to the bereaved family,"

Liton Das, who was attending a program for SG broke down after hearing the news of Rubel's death.

"You have given me a very saddening news. I played with him for a long time and I will always remember wherever I have played with him," Liton said.

The 40-year-old left behind many admirers and despite playing just five ODIs for the national team.

Rubel made his international debut for Bangladesh in 2008 against South Africa. However, in domestic cricket, the left-arm spinner picked up 392 wickets in 112 first-class matches. His last appearance for Bangladesh came in 2016 against England.
