President Mohammed Shahabuddin said the media should play an effective role in creating public awareness against anarchy, giving priority to the country’s Liberation War and ongoing development. The Head of State came up with this instruction when a delegation of the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in the capital Dhaka on Thursday. He also requested the ATCO leaders to be more active so that the anti-Liberation War circle could not mislead people by distorting the country’s history.

Country’s all achievements will go in vain if we fail to convey the spirit of the country’s Liberation War at all the doorsteps across the country. A lot of changes have happened over the last five decades. During this time, anti-state vested quarters have made several attempts to distort the history of the country’s Liberation War and Independence.

The government is providing all-out cooperation for the media so that they can work independently. The next 12th general election is going to be an acid test for those who believe in the development of democracy and the Liberation War. Hence, the media should remain careful about it.

of press

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led government has played a unique and groundbreaking role for the development of mass media and welfare of journalists of the country. A vast revolution has taken place in the country’s private television and radio sectors under the supervision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

There are now 45 private TV channels, 27 FM radios and 32 community radios got license. The number of newspapers has increased three times in the last 14 years.

Freedom of expression and equal rights of all people are enshrined in our Constitution and the mass media of the country is not only working freely but also flourishing rapidly. The Awami League government fully believes in freedom of press.

The media should play an important role to brighten the country's image. Media must focus on the truth. If anything the government has done for the country, it should be published properly, not in the interest of ruling Awami League, but in the interest of the country.
