The Mahera Zamindar Bari in Tangail that bears the testimony of Zamindar brothers still now attracts the people for its beauty, architectural design and historical value. Its craftsmanship with limestone and bricks captures the minds of visitors.
The historic house is situated 18 km east south of Tangail town and about 10 km on the west from Mirzapur Upazila Sadar. A magnificent sculpture still stands there as a sign of the time with its great appearance. It is currently being used as a police training centre.
Many people visit the house daily and enjoy shadowing of the abandoned foliage that creates a calm environment for the birds to call naturally. A variety of floral textures and smells are always available around the Zamindarr’ house. Flowers makes the house more fragrant and eye sighting.
The Mahera Zamindar Bari was built following the design of Cordova city of Spain. As a result, since the time of its construction, the sight of the house has been becoming more attractive with its surrounding beauty as witnessed by the time.
The house was built before 1890. Kalicharan Saha and Anand Saha, two brothers came to Mahera village and built the house. Within a few years, they owned a lot of money. Later, when the British government introduced the Zamindar system, the sons of Kalicharan Saha and Anand Saha bought a portion from the Zamindar of Chabbis Parganas of Korotia. Later, Rajendra Roy Chowdhury, successor of Kalicharan Saha and Anand Mohan Saha, managed the zamindari periodically.
The house of Mahera Zamindar is based on 1174 decimal. The house has three main buildings. There are also Kachari Ghar, Naib Saheb's house, Gomstad's house, residency for relatives and employees along with a temple for prayer. In front of the buildings, there are flower gardens too. There are some high circular pillars on the side of the road between the buildings and the Bisakha Sagar. There is a large open field in front of the Kalicharan Lodge. The buildings have high walls. There are two entrances to the houses. There is a statue of lion at the entrance of the houses.
According to the experts, the architectural design of the building is similar to that of Roman, Moghul, Indus Kheku. The craftsmanship of buildings with limestone and bricks captures the mind of any visitor.

The ancestors of Zamindar's house are Bidu Saha, Buddha Saha, Harendra Saha and Kalicharan Saha. There is a public saying that the most famous personality of the Zamindar houses was Girendra Kumar Roy Chowdhury of Maharaja Bhawan. He was a judge during the British period.
The Mahera Zamindar Bari has a tragic memory too. On May 14 in 1971, the Pakistani Army attacked the house and brutally shot five villagers, including Yogyama Roy Chowdhury, Pandit Bimal Kumar Sarkar, Manindra Kumar Chakraborty, Atul Chandra Saha and Noay Banik. The sign of tragic historical blood stains still remain there. The Zamindar family left Bangladesh during the Liberation War leaving the historic house and many other decorated houses.
Then a platoon set up a camp of freedom fighters at the zamindar house led by local freedom fighter commander Bayezid Saheb. After the Liberation War, the abandoned Zamindar house was established as a police training school. In order to modernize the training of the police, the Police Training School was upgraded to a Police Training Centre.
