Cox’s Bazar holds maiden commercial flower fair

A two-day long flower festival has started in Cox's Bazar to expand the flower trade. Additional Deputy Commissioner Vibhishan Kanti Das inaugurated the fair at Cox's Bazar Public Library Maidan on Wednesday morning.

This festival is organized by SDC Agro Limited to increase the commercial expansion of flowers. Directorate of Agricultural Extension, Cox's Bazar is providing full cooperation.

In the opening speech, Additional Deputy Commissioner said that Cox's Bazar is the most beautiful and picturesque area of Bangladesh. There is no one who does not know the name of Cox's Bazar. Flower festival has been added to the tourist city to attract tourism. At present, many flowers are being produced in various areas including Chakaria of Cox's Bazar.

The fragrance of flowers here not only spread prosperity, but also increased the economic status of the country. He expressed hope that this festival will play a role in the development of flower-centric tourism industry.

Director of SDC Agro Limited, Khondkar Hamidul Islam, gave a welcome speech on the occasion.

Zahid Hasan, District Marketing Officer Shah Jahan Ali, District Education Office Training Coordinator Kazi Abdul Aziz, Chemonics International Cox's Bazar Regional Team Leader Abdul Mannan and District Administration Executive Magistrate Masud Rana spoke among others.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Kabir Hossain, Deputy Director, Directorate of Agriculture, Cox's Bazar.

The flower growers of Chakaria and the traders of Cox's Bazar have decorated the stalls around the fair. Wedding cars, residences and photo session stalls have been decorated in the shape of fresh flowers at the fair.

Zayedul Islam, a flower grower of Chakaria, said that a lot of flowers are being produced in Chakaria region. Farmers will benefit a lot if they receive financial support from the administration and related parties.

Shafiul Alam, Director of Sun Flower, a traditional florist in Cox's Bazar, said, 'The Flower Festival has become a meeting place for our florists. We want the concerned parties to organize this festival every year. At the same time, he urged to spread the flowers produced in Cox's Bazar all over the country. 20 stalls are given in the fair. Different species of flowers are displayed there.

In the fair, the government is branding Cox's Bazar district with the vision of 'Festival of different colored flowers, tourist city Cox's Bazar district'. The tradition of Chakriya’s flower cultivation is long. Flower festival have received a huge response from florists, traders and visitors. The fair will end on Thursday.
