Due to the intense force of a cyclone formed over the Bay of Bengal, abnormal tidal surges overflowed the Cheptakhali Sluice Gate in Magnama, Pekua Upazila of Cox’s Bazar, flooding nearby residential areas. Roads in Kakpara, Morichyadia Natun Para, and Napitardia were submerged. There were fears that the tidal water might enter homes in low-lying areas.

In response, the authorities responsible for maintaining the Submarine Naval Base Road acted promptly, using concrete blocks to seal the water entry point. This quick action prevented flooding in areas like Magnama and Ujantia.

Amid these concerns, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin visited the potentially affected areas. On Saturday, he inspected the Cheptakhali Sluice Gate located on the Submarine Naval Base Road in Magnama Union. During the visit, he inquired about the construction of sustainable embankments to prevent future flooding.

Also present during the visit were Pekua Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Moinul Hossain Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Magnama Union Administrator Nur Peyara Begum, and Union Administrative Officer Abdu Razzak
