Covid situation worsens in Rajshahi: No bed available at RMCH

With eight more deaths at the Corona units of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital during last 24-hour, the total death toll by being attacked in Coronavirus and with the symptoms of Corona now stands 111 in last 13 days ending on Saturday morning, informed Brigadier General Shamim Yazsani,  Director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Saturday. 

Director Shamim Yazdani further informed of the deaths, five are from Chapainawabganj district and three are from Rajshahi district. 

Meanwhile, by testing samples of 256 patients, Coronavirus has been detected positive among 131 patients. The rate of detection of the virus is 51 percent. 

Meanwhile, with an increased pressure of patients attacked with Covid-19, all beds of Coronvirus Units under Rajshahi Medical College Hospital have been filled up and getting no beds available, many patients have taken shelter on floors and corridors of the wards of the hospital.  The physicians and nurses of the hospital were, however, were also facing an increased pressure to treat so huge number of patients with Coronavirus and with the symtoms of the virus.

Rajshahi Medical College Hospital sources informed, during the last 24-hour period ( 10-00 AM on Friday) , 32 more patients have been admitted to Corona wards of RMCH of whom 15 are from  Chapainawabganj district, 13 are from Rajshahi, three are from Naogaon and one is from Natore district. With these numbers,  during the last 24 hour (till 10-00 AM on June 4) a total of 225 Corona patients have been admitted and taking treatment at the hospital and 16 of the Coronavirus patients died during the same period.

According to RMCH sources, there are 232 beds in eight wards of the Corona  Units of the hospital. Till Friday morning (10.00 AM) a total of 225 admitted patients in those wards were under treatment. With no bed available, many patients were seen to take treatment by making beds on the floor and on the corridors of the wards. There was no bed available in the ICU as well.  

RMCH authorities further informed patients whose condition is serious and who are suffering from less saturation of Oxygen are only being admitted to the hospital. Patients with less complication are being treated and are being sent back to their houses to take treatment there.  

On June 5 (Saturday), Ward-1 of the hospital was being prepared afresh to hold patients attacked with the Coronavirus. With this ward, now a total of nine wards will be used to admit and treat the Coronavirus patients in RMCH. In Ward-1, a total of 32 beds with an Oxygen supply system in 28 beds are being prepared for the treatment of Coronavirus patients. 

Meanwhile, the number of deaths of Coronavirus patients at the ICU has also increased. RMCH sources said, no bed in the ICU remains vacant and even after increasing the number beds in ICU, the pressure of the patients could not be contained.  

Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani, Director of RMCH informed death of 16 patients attacked with Coronavirus from 6-00 AM Thursday to 6-00 AM Friday in Corona wards and in the ICUs was the highest number of deaths in a day during this year. 10 of the dead patients were tested Corona positive while six others died with the symptom of Coronavirus, he added. 

According to sources till June-4 (Friday) a total of 93 patients by being attacked with Coronavirus died at the Corona Units and at the ICUs of RMCH during in last 12-day, of them 56 tested Corona positive.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, 188 patients tested Coronavirus positive from among 529 patients in two laboratories of RMCH. Of them 82 detected Coronavirus positive by testing 152 samples from Chapainawabganj, 74 were tested positive among 284 in Rajshahi and 32 found positive among 93 in Natore district.
