A specially formulated Pfizer vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years will be administered at district and upazila levels across the country after the city corporation.

The member secretary of the management committee of the coronavirus vaccination of the Department of Health Dr. Shamsul Haq said, this program will be started in 427 upazilas of the country at the same time.

Children will be given the specially formulated Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. They should take the second dose 8 weeks after the first dose. All preparations have been made in this regard.

On August 11, 17 students of Abul Bashar Government Primary School in Sherbangla Nagar were experimentally vaccinated against coronavirus at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka. The trial run was conducted in 186 centres of 12 city corporations, including the capital.

After that, the health authorities have launched the Covid-19 vaccination campaign for children aged 5-11 at district and upzila levels across the country. The inoculation program started at 9pm on Tuesday. The nationwide campaign will continue for the next 12 days.

The member secretary Dr. Shamsul Haque also said that the vaccination campaign will start at 9 am every day. However, the principal or representative of the educational institution, the district primary education officer, the upazila education officer and the health-family planning officer or the municipal authority will decide the time of vaccination through coordination.

Health Minister Dr Zahid Maleque said that the parents have to register on the Surokkha app to get their children vaccinated. Two doses of this vaccine are to be taken eight weeks apart. The registration of children of the mentioned age limit through the Surokkha web portal or app has already started.

However, even if children’s Surokkha registration is not possible for some reason, COVID vaccination will be given through line listing.

The government has set a target to vaccinate across the country. Secretary of Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health Anwar Hossain Howladar said, a total of 22,638,737 children across the country will be brought under the vaccination drive.
