Covid infection rate drops to 9.39pc

Bangladesh registered 88 deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Thursday taking the death toll to 11,393.

The daily death toll increased in the last 24 hours as the country reported 77 single-day deaths on Wednesday. The death rate now stands at 1.51 percent in the country, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

However, the infection rate further dropped on Thursday to 9.39 percent which is the lowest since March 20. At least 2,341 new infections were recorded in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 7,56,955, added the release.

Among the latest day's victims, 52 were men, and 36 were women. Of them, 85 died in different hospitals across the country while three died on the way to hospital. 

Moreover, 48 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka Division, 22 from Chattogram, five from Sylhet, four each from Rajshahi and Barishal, two each from Rangpur and Mymensingh and one from Khulna division.

A total of 24,928 samples were tested across the country till 8am Thursday.

At least 4,782 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 6,77,101 and the recovery rate at 89.45 percent.

As of Thursday, 3,165,968 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 150,295,114 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
