In the last 24 hours, 69 people have died from corona virus in the country and 1,359 have been identified as newly infected by the virus.
So far, a total of 11,579 people died in the country due to Covid-19 while the number of infected people rose to 7 lakh 61 thousand 943.
This information was revealed in the regular press release sent from the Department of Health on Sunday.
On March 8 last year, for the first time 3 people were diagnosed with coronavirus in the country. Ten days later, on March 17, the first person infected with the virus died in the country.
On March 8 last year, the government announced the detection of first corona patient in the country. Infections began to increase from mid-May last year. By the third week of August, the infection rate was over 20 percent. From then on, the detection rate started to decrease.
For the three months, from June to August, the infection was acute. Occasionally there was a slight increase in infection rate in November-December but otherwise the stats were downward sloping.
The second wave of Covid started in March this year and is proving to be more intense than the first wave. The number of patients undergoing treatment in the country were declining. However, since March, the number of patients undergoing treatment has started rising again.
Whether or not a country is in control of the infection is determined by some of the indicators set by the World Health Organization. One of them is the patient identification rate. If the patient identification rate is below 5 pc for more than two consecutive weeks, the situation is considered to be under control.
From the beginning to the end of February this year, the detection rate was below 3 pc. Two months later, on March 10, the daily identification rose again. Since then, daily identification has been increasing.
