A total of 41 more people died of Covid-19 in the country in a day till Monday. The death toll rose to 12,660. In the meantime, 1,765 people have been newly identified.
Now the total number of corona patients identified in the country increased to 802,305 people.
This information was unveiled in a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.
In the last 24 hours, some 18,538 samples have been collected and 16,250 samples have been tested with antigen tests. So far 59 lakh 65 thousand 763 samples have been tested.
It also stated that the detection rate in the last 24 hours is 9.67 pc and the detection rate so far is 13.45 pc. The recovery rate stands at 92.50 pc and the death rate is 1.56 pc.
Of the deaths in the last 24 hours, 28 were men and 15 were women. So far 9,139 males and 3,521 females have lost their lives due to the virus.
On March 8 last year, the first corona case was detected in the country. Infections began to increase from mid-May last year. By the third week of August, the infected rate was over 20 percent. From then on, the detection rate started to decrease.
From June to August, the infection rate was acute. Occasionally there was a slight increase in November, December but otherwise the stats were downward sloping. The second wave of Covid started in March this year and is proving to be more intense than the first wave. The number of patients in the country was declining. However, since March, the number of patients undergoing treatment has started rising again.
According to WHO, if the infection rate remains below 5 pc for more than two consecutive weeks the situation will be considered to be under control. From the beginning to the end of February this year, the detection rate was below 3 pc. The daily infection rate has been increasing since March 10.
