Covid deaths, infections drop

The country has experienced fewer coronavirus deaths and infections on Saturday. 120 deaths from Covid-19 were registered in 24 hours till 8am Saturday, taking the death toll to 25,143.

The country recorded 3,991 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,457,194, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday. The death rate now stands at 1.73 percent in the country, added the release. 

The current positivity rate stands at 16.71 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 16.91 percent.

Among the 120 deceased, 69 were men, and 51 were women. Of the victims, 119 died in different hospitals across the country and one died at home. 40 of the deceased were from Dhaka division, 27 from Chattogram, 15 from Khulna, 13 from Sylhet, nine from Rajshahi, seven from Rangpur, six from Mymensigh, and three were from Barisal. 

A total of 23,882 samples were tested across the country till 8am Saturday.

During this period 7,666 Covid-19 patients have recovered. Up until now, a total of 1,355,421 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 93.02 percent.

As of Saturday, 4,431,662 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 211,715,865 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
