Covid claims 6 more lives in a day

Bangladesh registered 6 more deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours, till 8am Monday. This rakes the total number of deaths to 27,901. The current positivity rate falls to 1.28 pc.

According to experts, the Covid-19 situation in a country can be claimed to be under control if the infection rate remains under 5pc for two weeks. Bangladesh has successfully achieved that feat over a month ago.

Although the daily deaths have seen minor fluctuations, the overall number of cases remains significantly low.

The country recorded 215 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,571,228, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.

The death rate now stands at 1.78 percent in the country, as per the press release. Around 16,812 samples were tested during this time.

Of the 6 diseased, 4 died in Dhaka division and 2 in Khulna division. No one died in Sylhet, Rangpur, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Barisal and Mymensingh divisions.

Around 209 people recovered from the virus during the time. Up until now, a total of 1,535,034 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 97.70 percent. 

As of Monday, 5,067,323 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 250,732,110 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
